The smell of urine associated with the volume and concentration of various chemicals released by the body through the kidneys. Normally the urine is fairly thin and just a little smelly.
But some people sometimes find slightly viscous urine (high concentrations) and has a strong ammonia odor. Some things are known to cause unpleasant odor of urine, as follows:
Urinary tract infections (urinary tract infection / UTI)
This condition is a common cause of urine smell in women, although some men also can become infected. Invading bacteria will infect the bladder and kidneys and damage to the existing network. Mutually exchange partner can also be a cause, as the bacteria enter the body through the urethra, vagina or rectum.
Dehydration or lack of drinking
Inadequate fluid intake or dehydration can decrease the volume of urine which makes chemicals more concentrated. When water intake is reduced, the drastic change in color (become more concentrated) and also the smell (it has a strong ammonia smell).
Diabetes
People suffering from diabetes will excrete urine with an abnormal odor. This is because diabetics have high blood sugar levels that make the distinctive smell of urine.
Aspragaus
Asparagus is known as a vegetable that is rich in nutrients, but it can cause foul-smelling urine. Anticipated content in asparagus as dimethyl sulphide, methyl mercaptan and asparagusic acids as molecules responsible for this condition.
Garlic
Excessive consumption of garlic is known to cause the smell of urine and sweat odor and sting. Experts suggest avoiding foods with garlic if you will do a urine test that uses a diagnostic tool with odor sensors.
Coffee
High coffee consumption could make the urine smells. High caffeine content that will make the kidneys unable to filter out thoroughly so that some carried the smell of urine trigger. Besides coffee can also worsen urinary tract infection that makes the urine smell stronger
