Statistics Director of Finance, Technology, Information and Tourism Connecticut "Lumaksono Adi said" the reduced number of foreign tourists coming into the country due to the appreciation of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar (U.S.).

"With the appreciation of the rupiah (against the U.S. dollar) will hit the competitiveness of domestic tourism," he explained when contacted in Jakarta last weekend.

He added that the target of 7.7 million people "wisaman" visit to Indonesia is not expected to be achieved. However, the number "Wisman who come will still be larger than last year that is equal to seven million people. "It ranged from 7.2 to 7.3 million foreign tourists," he added.

Adi explained this year the exchange rate can be in the range of Rp8.500 per USD, not just exports that get hit but will have an impact on Wisman, because unlike last year where the exchange rate reached Rp9.500 per USD.

"Tourists are also becoming more expensive when they had to go to Indonesia, due to the increased value of the rupiah," he explained.

Conversely, the strengthening of the rupiah will actually increase the visits of tourists from Indonesia to other countries. "Many travelers in the country who go out, the increase reaches 15 percent," he said.

According to Adi with the achievement until the month of May be hard for the government to boost the arrival of foreign tourists to Indonesia reached the target. "Maybe there should be an effort that is not an instant to overcome this problem, such as opening NTB airports with large capacity, because during this time that the airport can not accommodate large-bodied aircraft," he said.

Adi also added if the number of visits in July is expected to be larger and will be a peak this year. "Because in Europe there had entered the summer, so July will be a lot of tourists coming in," he said.
